We offer Gun dog training, Obedience training (most breeds), Behavioral training (most breeds), and AKC / UKC Hunt Test training year round. Retriever training in Minnesota (summer) andTexas (winter). We specialize in dogs that live in the house
We train dogs that are fired up in the field, but make great buddies/family members in the house.
We specialize in gundog’s & dogs that live in the house with their family’s. Here at Kitchi Kahniss Retrievers each dog that comes in for training also rotates through the house. House training is also part of what we do. If you think about it your dog spends more time in the house with your family then he does hunting in the field. That’s why we spend a fair amount of time on your dog’s training, working on issues you’re having in the home. By subjecting our dogs to real social settings they will encounter with people & other dogs, allowed us I believe, to get a better more well rounded-dog in the field as well as in the house. This allows us to tailor fit each dogs training to our clients and our started dogs to their new families. The best gundog’s I’ve seen are the one’s that behave in the house, because if your dog’s behaving here, he will also behave in your duck/goose blinds (if your dog is bouncing off the walls in your house, chances are he’s doing the same thing in your blinds).
"Kahniss"
By working on home/behavior issues with your dog we are able to carry this training into his/her field training and vica versa. While in our training facility, your dog is treated like my own, this allows me more direct contact with your dog to learn his personality, disposition, attitude, and emotional well being. Once this is achieved we then can put a written training plan in place which covers both field & home training. By communicating and updating our clients of their dogs progress bi-weekly has allowed us to get personal with our clients and build good relationships with them & their dogs.
By staying true to our commitment to high standards with our dogs will bring a lifetime of enjoyment & balance in your household.

"In the Field"
We operate & train a little differently than "traditional" kennels. We incorporate "Pack" training with our dogs and limit ourselves to 12 dogs for training. This allows us to harmonize and balance the dogs that come into our pack, so we can give more time to each individual dog. Our number one goal is to help your dog find inner balance and help our clients find peace of mind. We strive to be mentors to our clients and each dog, which allows us to be more thorough in training both you and your dog. We run field-work (land-marks & water-marks), and yard work/obedience daily. We have daily "pack" runs, where every dog in the kennel runs together as a pack, so they can just have fun being a dog. This really helps them to work together as a pack and learn to navigate different terrains/cover.
We are a "pro-dog" facility, meaning we train to the benefit of your dog, so we train our dogs for what they will actually experience in the house and in the field. We travel to Minnesota and toTexas, so we can continue to train year round and serve both the northern & southern halves of theUnited States. We spend 6 months in MN and 6 months inTexas, which has allowed our dogs to see many more hunting scenarios & terrain specific to the area you hunt. The other advantage point for my hunt test clients is their dogs are tuned and ready for the start of the northern or southern hunt test seasons. While everyone else is just getting their dogs out of the kennel and starting to train or brushing them up, our dogs are tuned and ready to go, which in turn has lead to better pass results.
Traveling (driving/flying) teaches your dog to be a good traveling partner, with majority of my clientele spread through out the United States, my dogs are being exposed to very different hunting terrain from State to State. With this, I spend a lot of time dropping & picking dogs up from the Mpls & Houston airports. This has allowed us to be able to get your dog in for training on the off-season when they’re usually not working or when my clients go on family vacations.
